SUMMARY:Josh Kitchen - Asheville Glass Supply
DESCRIPTION:After Hurricane Helene devastated Asheville\, NC\, it wiped out nearly all the local glass supply companies and studios. We saw our community suddenly left without access to the tools\, materials and support that working artists need to survive. \nSo we decided to step up – not just as another supplier\, but as a true hub.\nWe are building a community-driven supply center\, resource network and gathering point for glass artists\, makers and collectors. Our mission is simple: restore what was lost – and build something even better. \nA place where artists aren’t just supplied – they are supported\, seen and connected. \nwww.ashevilleglasssupply.com

SUMMARY:Kit Paulson - Magpie Museum of Disorderly Inquiry
DESCRIPTION:Kit Paulson invites audiences into her Magpie Museum of Disorderly Inquiry\, the whimsical\, glass-filled world that occupies the front half of her studio. Known for transforming flameworked glass into unexpected objects—bonnets\, ornate masks\, delicate headpieces\, even sewing tools—Kit reveals how curiosity and contradiction drive her art. \nLike any true cabinet of curiosities\, her collection delights in misdirection; as she points out\, it’s “filled with blatant fakes. They’re not even fabricated in the right material.” This presentation explores the impulse to collect\, the pleasure of artifice\, and the imaginative possibilities of glass when it refuses to behave as expected.

SUMMARY:Alexx Cheng - Studio Tour and Home Made Tools
DESCRIPTION:Alexx will be giving us a studio tour\, sharing the homemade tools and setups that make his workspace shine. We’ll take a look at custom arm rests\, a hand stabilizer\, rod warmer\, a simple polariscope for checking internal stress\, and he will also demonstrate a silver and gold foil vacuum box. Alexx will also show how to hook up a concentrator with a compressed tank as a booster for those times a bigger flame is needed. Bring your questions for a Q&A about everything glass related.

SUMMARY:An Evening with - Terry Hale - Stretched Beads
DESCRIPTION:My “Stretched Bead” demo shows how to create a lovely\, marble-like bead while using a number of good exercises for torchworkers. I include how to use scrap bits\, choose great color combos\, and make a large round bead with good ends. Then the fun begins! We’ll change the shape of the bead\, as well as the surface decoration by using heat and gravity\, then a final bit of marvering to refine the shape. I share this bead in my beginner classes to demonstrate how glass moves and how to work with that movement. With my more advanced students\, I offer reminders of small techniques that may have been forgotten. The best part is that every bead made this way turns out beautifully! \nDragons\, we hope you join us for this fun and informative demonstration by Terry Hale!

SUMMARY:Terry Henry - Silver Reduction on Clear Glass
DESCRIPTION:Terry has been experimenting with silver leaf as a part of her recent series on glass properties\, and she needed to find a suitable non reactive base glass. She decided to use a clear base glass rather than her previous white to evaluate reactions between black glasses and silver. She was surprised when only some of the glass beads were successfully reduced. Many of the glass beads were cloudy and scummy looking and worst of all\, some of the beads turned dark ugly colors and looked burnt.\nTerry put her scientific background to work and figured out what needed to be done to get a perfect finish. She will be sharing that and more with us in this Speaker Presentation!\nSee Terry’s work and check for classes with Terry on her website:\nTerry-Henry-Glassworks.com

SUMMARY:Heather Behrend - The Baseball - A soft glass off-mandrel marble
DESCRIPTION:In this presentation\, we will build a lampwork baseball-inspired marble using soft glass. We will go over different ways to work off mandrel and how to use a marble mold. We will finish off the presentation with questions and answers about making marbles. \nHeather Behrendt is a lampwork glass artist from Rochester\, NY. She started with stained glass in high school and bought a hothead torch on a whim a couple years later. She has been working with hot glass since 2008 and is a full-time lampwork artist. She is inspired by patterns\, symbols\, and funny cat pictures. She uses her skill in soft glass stringer design to translate these into glass. She is most well known for her stringer-drawn cats and music pieces. She has shown her work in several exhibits and has presented at the ISGB Gathering. Her art has been published in magazines\, books and exhibitions. She teaches soft glass at the Rochester Arc and Flame Center in Rochester\, NY
