Ongoing Challenge #6
“Beachy Beads”
By Janie Jones
Florida Glass Dragons has been growing by leaps and bounds this year. From members you could count on two hands – who were ALL Floridians – to currently more members than Florida has oranges!! Well, maybe not quite that many. The point is, Floridians are now outnumbered. And this month’s Member Challenge could possibly be more of a challenge for all those new members who have joined since March and do not live near Florida’s waterways. This month the challenge is “Show Us Your Beachy Beads”. Have a new perspective on the normal everyday rendition of a beach bead. Try something new: a colorful beach umbrella, a crab, a surfboard or a run-away kite.. Show your efforts on our membership page under this Member Challenge post.
The bead shown has a definite beach feel represented by dark ivory used for the sandy looking left half and transparent turquoise used to represent the ocean on the right half.
The tool used to make the impression of a shell on the left side of the heart was made using the front of a metal pin I found at Hobby Lobby and mounted on a wooden dowel.
