Steampunk a unique theme that’s full of potential and lots of fun.  It blends the past with the future — often the way people in the 1800s imagined it —with technologies and wacky designs that are out of time and out of place!

How do you figure out how to make a bead that relates to Steampunk?

Marcy Lamberson suggested a few ideas:

Well, first thing is to google it. But not in glass. Look at Steampunk Art, Sculpture, Clothing or perhaps Jewelry. ( I also like looking at Pinterest, Instagram and Etsy) As you figure out your
concept, think about how it can be conveyed in glass.

Perhaps you want to combine glass and metal.. whether it is electroformed, or metal attached to glass (steel, copper, etc) Just be careful that the metal doesn’t have any coatings which would be dangerous in a flame. Oftentimes wire, gears or similar type items from a home improvement store, eBay or your garage will work.

What about silver glass that gives a metallic look? Or I think palladium, silver foil or other metallic forms might work well too. I’m also thinking Effetre Silver Plum or perhaps even red copper green (or whatever it’s called) might be interesting too. And maybe even a little aventurine for a sparkly metallic look.

There are lots of choices for you to get creative and try something really new.
