Swap #12

“Murrini Cane”

This Swap is Closed

Are you ready to try something new, or maybe you are a seasoned murrini maker? Here is your chance to share some inspiration with your fellow glass artists.

The purpose of this swap is to provide members an opportunity to experience the fun of swapping and building relationships with fellow artists while building or honing skills.

This Swap is being hosted by Michelle Curran.

Swaps are open to members only – click here to join the Glass Dragons Membership.

Details of the Swap:

● To participate you will need to make at least 3 different murrini cane in COE 104 glass and cut them into 1- inch canes. Each participant will send in 3 different 1 inch canes of murrini per pkg. The good thing about making murrini is you can make quite a bit at one time. (Packages do not have to be identical)

● You will mail in 12 pkgs, each containing the 3 pieces of cane, and you will receive 12 pkgs back.

● In order to participate, you must be able to send U.S. funds by PayPal or check or return postage. We should be able to send in a padded envelope so that should keep costs down.

The cutoff for signing up to participate is July 15, 2022.
Be sure to mail your swaps early enough to be received by the swap host by the deadline.
Your swaps MUST be received no later than September 15, 2022.

Keep in mind murrini cane will be made by different participants of all different ability levels. All that is required is that you make murrini which you are pleased and happy to share. This is not a competition!!

Make sure you agree with ALL of the rules first.
The swap coordinator’s contact information will be on the Facebook swap page.

● Please take a photo of your murrini before you mail them! It would be wonderful to have a description of what you used and any other information that you can share with us. Save at least a few for yourself so you can make a bead to show us!

● EACH pkg of murrini cane should also be labeled with your name, contact info (like email, FB or website), COE 104 so down the road there will be no question, and anything else you care to say. Put your murrini cane into a bag, along with your card, address label, or other method of identification. Package your individual swap bags carefully, with tissue, bubble wrap, etc. that can be reused to send the swaps out to the participants.

● All individually wrapped murrini containers should then be packaged into one box or padded envelope for mailing. Since murrini cane is soooo small, you should be able to use a padded large envelope. If you do use a box, we suggest you use a small US Priority Mail box to send your swap pieces; which is flat rate, so there are no surprises in cost, and the boxes are free. Insurance is included for value up to $50.00

PUT YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS INSIDE THE BOX OR ENVELOPE, SO I KNOW WHERE TO SEND YOUR SWAP PIECES! Be sure to include a check, money order, or a click n ship label with your murrini for return postage (unless you plan to pay me using Paypal.) Make checks and money orders payable to Michelle Curran.

● If you are paying by Paypal, send me the payment using pay a family/ friend (usually no fee) through Paypal. If you have any individual concerns, please email me ( Crafty603@aol.com)

● If your murrini canes are not received by September. 15th they may miss being included in the swap and instead will be returned to you.

Things to Remember

  • We encourage all skill levels to play. All that is required is that you make something that pleases you and you are happy to share with others. This is not a competition!!
  • The swap items are randomly assigned.
  • Only commit if you are confident you can participate.
  • Keep in mind, the swap coordinator is a volunteer with their own life and is doing the best they can. Be kind.

Participation Rules:

● Sign up on the Facebook swap page.

● You must sign up by the deadline in order to be included. You must also meet the deadline for mailing your swap pieces to reach the swap coordinator in time to be divided and shipped out to other participants. If your beads are not received by the receive date, they may miss being included in the swap and instead your beads will be returned to you. Allow for possible slow mail delivery and keep your tracking number so you may keep up with the delivery.

Please take a photo of your swap pieces before you mail them! It would be wonderful to have a description of what you used and any other information that you can share with us along with the photo on our Swap Facebook page. A sample used on a paddle or bead to share later would be great!

After everyone has received their swaps: PLEASE POST PICTURES ON OUR SWAP FACEBOOK PAGE!

● Package your individual swap items carefully, with tissue, bubble wrap, etc. so that it may be reused to send the swaps back out to the participants. Please make sure each individual bag is fully closed or sealed so the murrini doesn’t fall out. Make sure your name, contact info (like email, FB or website) and anything else you’d care to say is attached to each item, so the recipient knows who made the piece. You can staple your business cards to the bags if they don’t fit inside.

● In order to participate, you must send return postage to the swap coordinator. We will use a small Flat Rate US Priority Mail box to send swap pieces, so there will be no surprises in cost – the boxes are insured for value up to $50.00. (www.pirateship.com is a great alternative to using the post office and is a little less expensive).

Place the following inside the box:

○ Your name and address
○ Swap items
○ A prepaid self-addressed label for small flat rate box – priority mail (currently $9.45) or a check or money order made payable to the swap coordinator. ( Non US participants will have to work out postage details with the swap coordinator.)

Hint: To save some money, you can put all these items inside a USPS Small Flat Rate box. Gently tape it shut (or tie it with string) and pack that INSIDE a larger envelope, or wrap it in brown paper. Send your package to the swap coordinator (as long as you do it early) by any means you desire. Just don’t use the seal on the priority box – the coordinator is going to need to use that.

What Happens Next:

● I will create packages and send them to each participating member. The murrini will be mailed out as soon as possible.

● Keep in mind, the swap coordinator is a volunteer with their own life, and is doing the best they can. Be kind.

● Let the swap coordinator know when you have received your swap box.

● When you receive the murrini, open them, admire, and fondle them. Try to have an open and receptive attitude about the murrini you receive, it is not all about the murrini, it is about the connections between members. Think about the work that went into making them and getting them into your hands.

● There will be a thread started on the general Facebook page for photos. Let us know when everyone has received their murrini, as to not ruin any surprises. After everyone has received their goodies, start posting photos of what you made or received. PLEASE POST PICTURES ON OUR FACEBOOK GROUP!

Small print:

● Only commit if you are confident you can participate. If you don’t send in your murrini, you are disappointing your fellow members who will receive fewer murrini. Maybe you have some murrini you already made on hand right now? Why not set them aside and keep them as your swap backups, in case life gets in the way?

Looking forward to seeing all the wonderful cane, and what everyone creates with them.
