Challenge #44

“Try A Trendy Twistie”

by Janie Jones

This month’s theme is “Twist and Shout” and since it’s Decemberrrrr, most glassworkers will think of making a winter hat or mittens using a twistie for the fluffy border. Or making a Christmas tree using a twistie as a garland might come to mind. The challenge for December is … “Try A Trendy Twisty.” Make some glass using a twistie – any form of glass! Maybe you could try something you haven’t made before? No limits for this challenge, just use a twistie – or put a ‘twist’ in your piece, or on the surface of your piece.

I tried something different, something new. The bead shown for this challenge was made using a twistie of dark transparent cobalt and dark turquoise, then spiral-wrapped over a base bead of clear. The whole thing was encased with a healthy layer of clear, then sliced with a razor blade circling up towards the top. Try it yourself, if you like, and post your efforts in Comments on our Members Facebook page beneath this challenge.

Thank you for contributing something to the Dragons for this, my last Challenge. Want to take my place for a couple of months, just to give it a try? Email me at ideas@theglassdragons.com, and it will be my pleasure to assist.
Thanks everyone for hanging out for forty-four ongoing challenges! I appreciate it.
