Spotlight on Marcy Lamberson
Hi everyone, I’m Marcy Lamberson. I’ve been torching for almost 25 years. I wanted to make encased floral beads as I was painting floral watercolors at the time and wondered if there would be similarities in layering transparent colors. So, I took a class to find out.
Honestly, my beads did not progress quickly. I wasn’t spending enough time torching. But once I increased my time, took more classes and upgraded to a Minor, they improved.
I taught myself sculpture by using Play-Doh and buying little Happy Meal toys to try them in glass. It was fun. Each one was like solving a puzzle in glass. The variety kept it fresh, while the variety also amused me.
After a few years, I was asked to demo. Just one bead. Of course I was stressed, but after it was over, I found how much I enjoyed seeing others smile from making that bead. I love teaching as much as I love melting glass. There is a lot of joy in seeing other people being successful and smiling when looking at what they’ve learned.
I’ve taken a lot of classes over the years. I tried to take classes with people who do different things than what I do. It helps me meld techniques together to create something new and sometimes there is a technique or way an instructor does something that makes a lightbulb go off. I bet you’ve had that too. I want my bead life to keep evolving and changing.
Currently, I am still selling on Facebook through private groups and teaching as much as possible. I’m trying to take a little more time off when I can, to do things with Keith who has retired. But almost monthly I’ll have a 2 day show and make approximately 80 new focal beads for each one and include a variety of new beads that I haven’t made before. Some are variations on an existing design, and some are brand new. It keeps beadmaking fresh. I also love making beads for current events like the recent solar eclipse.
My personal life: Keith and I try to travel a little bit each year. We didn’t do much previously, so we’re trying to make up for lost time. When this comes out, we will have recently returned from the Galapagos Islands for our anniversary. We have two adult children: Grant & Kristen- aka Sparky. Both are creative and interesting souls who enjoy full lives. My Mom in Wyoming is still doing great in her nineties. Keith and I enjoy exploring around the Atlanta metro area and taking a weekend or two to hit the beach and hopefully boat or sail.
I painted some watercolors before I started glass. I’m thinking about pulling out my old paints one of these days.
