Meet Carolyn Baum
I spent many years making beads, took silversmithing classes so that I could use my beads in jewelry. I wrote many articles for bead publications over the years. Had my jewelry exhibited and even won a few awards. My early experiments with wire were published in lapidary journal in 2005 and 2006. Those examples were wires being used as part of jewelry.
Dragons, I am now a full time resident of beautiful Florida, and look forward to sharing hugs with you all soon.
My glass journey started right here in Bradenton, where I am now living. I attended a workshop on beads at the South Florida museum. I was hooked. That was 1995.
The following year I took my first class with Paul Stankard at Corning. My experience there and with him was life changing. My heart and brain practically exploded in that week with all the info jammed into it. Amongst the things I learned about that week was that a father and son team from Germany created these beautiful botanicals for Harvard. We were allowed a close up look at these flowers. They had a wire armature.

Metal work has also entered my sculpture techniques. This adds strength and durability to the sculpture and allows me to construct large pieces with soft glass.
Living here in Florida gives me the opportunity to continue my love of living with and enjoying the natural world. Kayaking and biking have become my means of discovering the joys of our surroundings. I discover new things everyday. They inspire me to create new works and find a way to express that in glass.
