Spotlight on Cindy Gillick

Cindy Gillick has been an artist her whole life. As a child, she created using wild flowers and tree bark. She made mandalas with broken pottery, leaves and whatever else she could find. She also made lots of sand castles and forts throughout her childhood. Cindy grew up in the beautiful Pacific Northwest on the Kitsap Peninsula. She raised her three children there, as well as fostered a couple of teenagers and she now has six grandsons and one granddaughter.

In High School, Cindy’s dream job was working in advertising, designing copy for print and the internet. But working as an Executive for a National Media Company for years did not meet her expectations. She left it to study massage therapy, meditation and hypnotherapy. She had a successful practice for 15 years but when the pandemic came along, the therapy career was affected and her practice had to close. She pivoted and chose to pursue her artistic passions of painting, drawing and designing beaded jewelry. Then, she had the opportunity to purchase another artist’s entire lampworking set up and she did just that!

Glass art had always been an interest, but a 2003 trip to Murano, Italy inspired and intensified her urge to create with glass. Something about the molten flow of gooey color was exciting and she had to get her hands onto those vibrantly colored glass rods. Finally! An artistic medium that spoke to her heart and her creativity. Cindy may be relatively new to working with glass, but her creativity and eye for color is clearly visible in her designs.

When not in the studio, Cindy loves cooking up some gourmet delight, kayaking on the Hood Canal or the Puget Sound with her husband, or at the Pacific Coast camping and beach combing. She also has a bit of an addiction to gardening with almost an acre of gardens, plantings and hardscapes which, even though it cuts into the glass time, creates a beautiful place to live.

Transforming her therapy studio into a fully functioning glass working shop also transformed Cindy. Creating with glass has brought a deeper joy for life, and the work (which is play), has been enhanced with an amazing community of new friends, which is a real bonus!
