Challenge #41
Fire Fails & Kiln Klunkers!
by Janie Jones
Ever spend a great deal of time on a particular glass piece – lots of layers, lots of thought, lots of time – to have it crack the following day? That’s the challenge for this month – share your “Fire Fails,” your flubs, your wonky and wayward pieces that were just a big disappointment or a total heartbreak. Kiln klunkers qualify too. Surely this won’t be difficult – and don’t be embarrassed, it happens to everyone! All skill levels implored!
Sharing a fine failed example of my own here. Recently, I asked members how they healed a cracked bead *after* it was taken off the mandrel, and some very helpful tips were shared. It was also mentioned that one solution would be to toss the piece and just make another. Well, stubborn as I am and considering all the mixed stringers, layers and construction of this bead, I couldn’t bring myself to toss it.
So I just stare at it – frequently lol!
Members, please post your images of your fabulous fire fails in comments beneath this challenge on our members Facebook page. Thanks for sharing.
