An Afternoon with
Barbara Becker Simon
October 12, 2020
Barbara has discovered that fine silver and glass are in a relationship—a very serious relationship: they LOVE each other! You can open a world of possibilities and creative fun with the marriage of these two materials.
Metal clay is very user friendly and doesn’t involve expensive tools or equipment, with basic techniques that can be mastered without much fuss.
This presentation will illustrate numerous ways to use fine silver metal clay with the glass that we use in lampworking. There are methods that involve making separate items out of metal clay that can be mechanically attached to your glass jewelry, like clasps; or there are ways to combine these two materials in the kiln or in the flame.
Barbara enjoys making jewelry that is true and without pretension that resonates with the wearer. She teaches to inspire confidence and joy in new students and experienced makers. Manipulating hot glass is, for Barbara, an exciting, joyful process. When she can combine glass with metalwork, she feels that the best of both worlds has been achieved.
