An Afternoon with

Jelveh Jaferian

Vertebrae Bead

Thursday, March 4, 2021

We start off our March 2021 Speaker Series presentations by welcoming back Jelveh Jaferian as guest speaker. For her demonstration, Jelveh will make a “Vertebrae” bead.

Jelveh credits Gail Crossman Moore with taking her in this direction. Join us as we spend an afternoon with Jelveh!

(This is a technique that might be incorporated into our current “Steampunk!” swap.)

Jelveh also plans to demonstrate metal inclusions, like copper. This should be a fun and exciting presentation!

After the Demo Update!

Jelveh Jaferian was gracious enough to step up to the Speaker podium once again. For this visit, she demonstrated making a vertebrae bead. Jelveh credited this technique to Gail Crossman Moore, a talented boro bead artist. She had seen this design featured in Jim Kervin’s book highlighting Gail’s work

Jelveh started with Double Helix Triton and encased it in Zephyr clear. She then used Triton again as surface decoration. The bead style and surface decoration gave the bead a Steampunk vibe, and Jelveh chose to demo it in honor of our upcoming swap.

She discussed and showed examples of the various looks you can get from reduction glass depending on how you work with it. She mentioned how Triton reacts to over-reducing encasement, different heat and how we can use those things as design elements. She also showed us some examples of the different “faces” of Clio that can be achieved by varying other elements while making the beads.

Once her bead was made and pressed, Jelveh used reduced surface decoration to make it even more lovely!

Thank you Jelveh for once again sharing your talents with us!

Visit Jelveh’s website to see more of her/his work and get information on any classes he/she may offer..

If you would like to show some appreciation for her generosity in sharing her skills with us, you can send Jeri something for her tip jar (any amount, large or small is welcome.)
