Glass frits provide an opportunity to vastly increase your color palette and bead repertoire with minimal investment in time or budget.

There is a dizzying array of colors, blends, sizes, opacities and uses for these often under-appreciated elements of the glass world.

Juliet will help get you excited to break out your frit stash, try out some new blends or even make your own! Her presentation will be information packed and will include a slide show designed to get your creative juices flowing!

She will also provide several frit demonstrations including techniques for applying frit, pulling and using frit stringers, making variegated frit cane and an ethereal faux boro technique.

You can reach Juliet via Facebook  or email: juliet@julietpage.com

Her Lampwork tutorial videos are available on her YouTube Playlist.

Juliet knows her frit and what to do to make it sing! She first explained frit characteristics and types, and what we could do with them. She talked about COE compatibility, and how useability could be affected by metal oxides as well as where you use it. Juliet gave us some sources for frit of various types, and gave us some names of various artists who have made videos about using frit.

Next, Juliet discussed using frit in several ways, making use of translucency, the paintbrush technique, surface decoration and also using frit in an organic style. She talked about other methods of using frit, such as on hollows, as a supporting element, as texture and pulling it into stringer. Juliet has used frit on headpins, plant pokes, and in flower arrangements. She gave us information on some specialty frits, and how they can be used for different effects. After Juliet shared an amazing amount of information about frit, she went into Demo mode and showed us some great samples!

Juliet is having a give-away for Dragon members with some of her lovely beads as prizes. Entries made according to the rules and then posted in the correct spot by April 30th will be eligible to win. Full rules are posted on the member’s Facebook page. A random drawing will be conducted during the May 8th monthly meeting.
