An Evening with
Alexx Cheng
Gold Leaf Beads &
Frit with Plunged Bubbles
Thursday, February 17, 2022
Alexx is planning to demonstrate two different beads for us. One bead will have decorative gold leaf applied and then encased with clear glass. He will also be showing us a demo of a frit bead with encased “poke bubbles”. It is always a pleasure when Alexx visits us from his studio in Thailand, and we look forward to welcoming him once again!

As always, Alexx Cheng was the life of the party. He is so much fun and so knowledgeable about all things glass. Tonight’s presentation was no exception.
Naturally Alexx got our appetites whetted for gold leaf right from the start. Sharing his engineering prowess, he showed us his homemade vacuum box holding four pieces of gold leaf ready to be used on a bead. It took him no time to have a gold crackle bead, ready for some dots.
Alexx moved on to another gorgeous bead which he had already started and put in annealing bubbles. He took it out of the annealing bubbles and took it straight to the flame to finish it up. This bead was made using Rose Bouquet frit and it turned out so pretty. He finished it using layered color dots, poked the dots, then added clear which made those bubbles. Beautiful!
During his presentation, Alexx showed us more of his own inventions, but also talked about some other items available to lampworkers which could make our lampworking easier. This was an interesting part of his presentation and he promised us more wonderful inventions to come.
Thank you Alexx, for sharing your time and expertise with us!
Alexx suggested that if you enjoyed this presentation and wish to show appreciation, you find some way to help a veteran or homeless person.
