An Evening with
Ferenc Albert – Miniatures
Thursday, September 22, 2022
Ferenc J. Albert has been making handblown glass dollhouse miniatures since 1975. In his own words “What was originally a hobby, became a full-time obsession!” Once you see his gorgeous glass in person, you’ll understand why! He even made a miniature Thomas Edison lab!

Nonagenarian Ferenc Albert, originally from Hungary, has made some amazing miniature glass pieces in his career. He showed many of them to us, describing and to us how he was able to create such tiny works of art. Seeing the slideshow of all the beautiful pieces he has made was incredible.
He made a miniature of the Thomas Edison lab, which looked like an actual lab only in tiny replicated pieces. With the many colorful pieces of miniature glass – which included lamps, decanters and chandeliers among them – the Victorian Room was another amazing project. Some of his work was done in collaboration with silversmiths, making miniature pieces including silver and glass in one small piece – something you need to see to believe!
Ferenc said his journey started with making small flowers, then small bottles. He was also a Scientific glassblower at a university. He is multi-talented, making his own tools to create these phenomenal pieces of miniature art.
He has different patterns and has hand written cards for the various pieces, with measurements used to replicate the patterns so the miniatures will be the same size. He works on a Smith Little Torch, using 6 different tips, changing them as needed.
Although at 90 years of age, Ferenc no longer makes the really small pieces anymore, he still has his studio and can go out if the mood strikes him. It was fascinating to watch Ferenc work and make these amazing glass miniatures.
He said this skill is “a dying art.” He hopes that some other glass artists will chose to learn and continue this wonderful art form and keep it going for future generations.
Thank you Ferenc, for sharing your time and expertise with us! It was a real treat to see your beautiful work and to have you talk with us about it!
