Hope everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving is recovering after a time filled with food, family and joy. As often happens after a big holiday dinner, we’re having a little-bit-of-this and a little-bit-of-that approach. Special thanks to Janie Jones for doing the hunting-and-gathering this month! My best tips that I’ve not gotten elsewhere are probably how I mark the glass rods.
I use washi tape to mark my glass rods. I tried writing on them with a sharpie (cumbersome), putting other labels on them (glue sticks), etc..nothing really worked. The washi tape has enough gummy to stick to itself but not leave glue on the rod and is thin so it burns easily… Plus it gives me a reason to buy and use fun washi tape colors!
For my clear rods, I color code the ends by stamping them on an archival permanent ink pad, pink for zephyr, blue for super clear and black for regular clear.

Anything stainless steel can be used as a lampworking tool. I’ve used screwdrivers and soap cutters- anything can be used to create something interesting.
Another tip would be that if something doesn’t seem to be working, don’t get frustrated. Just try a different shape or add a new color, it could turn out better than you think. Most of the pieces that I made mistakes on, I actually get the most compliments on. I guess Bob Ross was right: “No mistakes, just happy accidents!”
