An Evening with

Carol Ann Savage

The Joy of Flower Murrini

Thursday, July 21, 2022

If you have ever seen Carol’s floral beads, you know how beautiful they are. She is going to talk to us about how she uses murrini in her work. Carol will be using video and photos in the presentation, sharing information on design and color possibilities, as well as how to place the murrini in a bead and retain their shape and form.

You can find more about Carol and her glasswork on her website and on Facebook on her personal and business pages.

Members can find the recorded presentation on our Facebook page.

Carol Ann Savage is a Jack of All Trades and Master of All of Them. She makes beautiful murrini and applies them perfectly in creating her exquisite beads. (This is when she isn’t wearing one of her other hats as a musician or a tea sommelier.) Carol gave us a great slide show of some of her beads, and her progression from the early days to today. She has such a variety of colors and shapes with so many types of floral murrini included, not to mention the types and colors of leaves she adds to her beads.

Carol makes murrini cane of a variety of types and colors to keep ready for when she makes a bead. She makes it using Astrid Reidel’s method, as in Astrid’s tutorials on Etsy. She showed us how she prepares and uses the cane to insert the murrini in the bead, and how she makes it “bloom” for the natural look of a flower with open petals and center stamen.

Sharing freely with us, Carol gave us a plethora of tips during her presentation and answered our questions as they came up during the slide show and the videos. Using a variety of glass colors and types for her bead backgrounds allows Carol to show the flowers and leaves at their best. The various materials and methods Carol uses also changes the results, and helps create a variety of beautiful floral pieces.

Thank you Carol for your wonderful demonstration, and for giving us the encouragement needed to try making flower murrini sing in a bead!
