Fusing Friday – Fusing Dichroic Glass

We’ll watch the video for the Dichroic Glass lesson in the series together as a group, pausing along the way to chat and ask questions about what we’re seeing. This interactive format gives everyone a chance to share insights, compare techniques, and explore ideas in real time—turning a simple viewing into a lively, collaborative learning experience. It’s a relaxed, collaborative session—perfect for learning, comparing teaching approaches, and sparking new ideas.

After watching this lesson you’ll: Be able to score, break, and grind dichroic glass without chipping or scratching its delicate coating
Know how to engrave dichroic glass with any design you can imagine
Understand how to position and layer dichroic glass within the kiln to create pieces that maximize depth or reflectivity
You’ll also pick up a handy technique for quickly and easily determining which side of dichroic glass is coated (which can be tricky with clear dichroics)!

Following the lesson, we’ll have our usual discussion where Dragon fusers of all levels share their latest work, experiments, and works-in-progress. Participants are invited to talk about their inspiration, techniques, challenges, and happy accidents—whether it’s a perfectly slumped bowl, a large project, or a tiny test tile that taught a big lesson. It’s a chance to exchange ideas, ask questions, and learn from one another in a supportive, no-pressure environment that values process just as much as the finished piece.

Bring your finished fused pieces to share. Discuss common techniques, ideas, tips, and tricks you have used in your fusing projects (but not any trade secrets from instructors, please). Tell us about classes you have taken, and which ones you have found valuable.
